Iran-Israel at the Brink of War

The silence of Saturday’s night has instantly broken out in Israel and its peripheries due to the sirens of Israel’s Air Defence System and the massive explosions in the air. Later the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari, has revealed, more than three hundred projectiles including: drones, ballistic missiles and rockets have been launched towards Israel by Iran. However, the advance defence system of Israel- Iron Dome along with the help of her allies: US, France, UK and Jordan, 99 percent of the strikes have successfully intercepted and diffused before they enter into the Israel’s territory.

The tension between Israel and Iran has been mounting since the October 7th Hamas’ attacks on Israel and her ferocious response resulting into the assassination of more than 32000 innocent Palestinians, most of them are, children and women. The conflict has further exacerbated by the alleged strikes of Israel Air Force on Iranian Diplomatic Complex in Syria on April 1st, 2024, causing the demise of its seven officials including Mohammed Reza Zahedi, a top commander in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), and senior commander Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.

It was an ardent but a cautious risk taken by Iran to convey the message to the international community that she is not only vigilant of her territorial security but also, by any mean she will protect that, which reflects from the words of  Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Hossein Salami: “We have decided to create a new equation, which is that if from now on the Zionist regime attacks our interests, assets, personalities, and citizens, anywhere, and at any point, we will retaliate against them,”. The retaliation also surges Iran’s moral standing in Islamic community, particularly among Muslim laymen, as they deem it an offence against Zionist notion: realistically, the aforementioned incident is akin to attacks on Iran’s Consulates in Damascus, rather for the liberation of Palestine. The urgency shown by the United Nations and the Western blocks, for instance, G-7, it manifests, Iran has to face further economic sanctions along with the increase in its security vulnerabilities, as Israel is aiming to take revenge by targeting Iranian interests in different parts of the world, especially in Middle East, despite the fact that global leadership has urged both actors to show passions by avoiding further escalation. Based on the swiftly changing geostrategic dynamics, it seems, global peace and human rights will remain at the bay in near future, while the Middle East will bear the brunt of international conflicts.
